Productivity and the cost of absenteeism
Almost half of the 29,000 workers in a random sample had headache, back pain, or other musculoskeletal pain in a two week study. Most employers focus their attention on sick days; however, absenteeism is not the only problem for employers. Absenteeism is less then 25% of lost productivity. 75% of lost productivity comes from poor performance of those workers that come to work and can not work efficiently because of musculoskeletal pain or muscle pain. (Journal of American Psychological Association)
The study shows that a more aggressive approach to treating pain in the workplace will increase productivity. One of the easiest and cost effective programs is offering your employees a first aid program with over the counter medicines for example: Ibuprofen (OTC).
