When choosing the correct glove needed for your application keep in mind that worker safety is the ultimate goal. Always consider the amount of grip and protection you need as well as the proper fit.
Gloves are an essential tool for completing tasks safely and efficiently. You need a glove that will improve grip when handling tools or slippery objects, protect from sharp objects, protect from extreme temperatures and protect from toxic and corrosive chemicals. A good glove choice can accomplish this and give you the grip you need to work safely.
Cotton gloves with rubber dots or coated require less grip force by the wearer when handling slippery items or items without handles. Rubber gloves also require less force when handling slippery or wet items compared to cotton gloves but tend not to last as long. Rubber gloves also give you more dexterity and grip when handling small items. Cotton and leather gloves perform best when protection against sharp objects or extreme temperatures is needed. If this type of protection is needed when handling slippery surfaces just remember that it will require more grip force by the wearer to accomplish the job.
No glove is safe if it does not fit well. A glove that is too large will require more grip force by the wearer to accomplish the job. This will add to fatigue over time and even more loss of grip. On the other hand a glove that is too small reduces dexterity, this can also lead to more grip force required by the wearer. Always keep an assortment of sizes on hand for the proper fit for all employees.
