Roughly 2000 workers have a job-related eye injury each day in the US that requires medical treatment. One third of these injuries are treated in hospital emergency rooms and more than 100 of these result in lost work days.

Use this eye safety check list to minimize or prevent eye injuries;

o      Create a safe work environment by minimizing hazards from falling or unstable debris.

o      Be sure that tools work properly and safety features such as machine guards are always in place.

o      Make sure that everyone knows how to use tools properly, and keep bystanders and unauthorized employees out of the hazard area.

o      Identify all primary potential hazards at the work site including those posed by nearby machinery, nearby debris and workers.

o      Select the proper Z87 eye protection for the hazards you are encountering.

o      Be sure all eye protection fits well, will stay in place, and is in good condition.

o      Clear your eyewear regularly.

o      Do not rub your eyes with dirty hands and always brush debris from your hardhat, forehead, and hair before removing your eyewear.

Always be prepared to deal with an eye injury. Keep emergency first aid supplies on hand with a good supply of sterile eye and face wash.
