Lately it has been hot, very hot. For those that work in the heat you are at risk of heat stress. Exposure to the heat can and will often times result in occupational illnesses and injures. Types of heat stress are heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, or heat rashes. Heat in the work place can also increase the risk of other occupational injures for example safety glasses and googles fogging up or wet hands because of perspiration that may make some jobs impossible. It is not always those that work outside that are subject to heat stress often times we see heat stress with workers working inside becuase of poor ventaliaion. Workers over 65 years of age, overweight, have heart disease or high blood pressure, or take medications are at greater risk of heat strees. Heat stress is easy to prevent and easy to recognize.
