3.7 million workers suffered injuries or illnesses while on the job and 5,200 people died in 2008.  Every minute 7 workers are injured, and that is why it is important to understand first aid and safety at your business, so you can have someone respond with first aid knowledge to an injured worker.  Although, you might have heard it before it can be the difference between life and death.

In 1970 congress passed the OSHA act to help with safety and health related conditions for workers in the US.  OSHA covers all employees, except those who are self employed and state and local government’s employees.

OSHA recommends the following

Training for emergencies should they occur at least once per year
Skill review and practice sessions twice per year
Make sure all training materials are up to date
First Aid Training programs using hands on demonstrations
First Aid Supplies
Employees knowledgeable of first aid need to be covered by the Bloodborne Pathogen standard
A work place first aid program must comply with OSHA that include first aid supplies
