It is that time of year when it is hot, very hot! Workers are exposed to extreme heat this time of year and are at risk of heat stress. Exposure to the heat often times results in occupational illnesses and injures.  Some illnesses and injures are common like heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, or heat rashes.  Heat also can increase the risk of other injuries as a byproduct. An example is fogged up safety glasses or wet hands because of perspiration.  Here are three items that are important to have a supply of for this time of year:

1) Anti Fog Lens Wipes
2) Sqwincher or Gatorade
3) Gloves

Often time heat stress happens indoors because of poor ventilation.   Workers over 65 years of age, overweight, have heart disease, high blood pressure or take medications are at great risk of heat stress.  Prevention of heat stress is simple and important.

Types of heat stress:

1) Heat Stroke
2) Heat Exhaustion
3) Heat Syncope
4) Heat Cramps
5) Heat Rash
