A key component to first aid is to know how to deal with minor pain. Minor pain is the easiest to diagnosis and treat. Most injuries are as simple as a headache or backache and fortunately we have several great options to deal with minor to moderate pain with over the counter medicines, specifically Ibuprofen and Aspirin. They are similar on the surface but it is important to understand their differences.
How are the similar?
1) Great for all kinds of minor pains for example headaches 2) Available everywhere without a prescription 3) Can cause harm if used incorrectly 4) Both will reduce swelling and inflammation
When is aspirin your best choice?
1) Aspirin has been factually shown to reduce the chances of a heart attack but only when taken in small doses each day 2) If you or someone around you is possibly experiencing a heart attack an aspirin should always be taken after 911 is called 3) Aspirin works by thinning the blood and that is why it is good for preventing heart attacks 4) Aspirin is better at treating headaches compared to ibuprofen
When is ibuprofen your best choice?
1) Ibuprofen is not as damaging to the stomach and digestive tract 2) Can be used more often 3) For muscle pain ibuprofen is more effective 4) Flu or cold symptoms ibuprofen is a better choice
