The Bee Gees song “Stayin Alive” was created in 1977 for the movie "Saturday Night Fever" and has a tempo that is perfect for chest compressions during CPR. The new guidelines suggest 100 compressions per minute and the Bee Gee song "Stayin Alive" has 103 beats per minute.
American College of Emergency Physicians conducted a test with 10 doctors and 5 medical students practicing chest compressions while music was being played. Five weeks later they resembled the same group of people and had them perform the same test without music, however, each played the music in their head and on average they did 113 compressions, which is within the acceptable range.
