In 2008, 3.7 million workers suffered injuries or illnesses while on the job and 5,200 people died from injuries while at work.  7 workers are injured every minute, so it is important to understand first aid and safety at your place of business.  It is also important to have someone respond to an injured worker with first aid knowledge.  It can mean the difference between life and death.

In 1970 congress passed the OSHA act to help with safety and health related conditions for workers in the US.  OSHA covers all employees, except those who work for themselves or work for state and local governments.

OSHA recommends the following:

Training for emergencies should they occur at least once per year
Skill review and practice sessions twice per year
Make sure all training materials are up to date
First Aid Training programs using hands on demonstrations
First Aid Supplies
Employees knowledgeable of first aid need to be covered by the Bloodborne Pathogen standard
A work place first aid program must comply with OSHA that include first aid supplies
